See the Immanuel approach Live – Preview Clips from Live Session DVDs

  • One of the best ways to introduce people to the Immanuel approach.
  • Inspiring, encouraging, and faith building!

While these highly condensed previews of live sessions are not long enough to teach you how to facilitate the Immanuel approach process, they are inspiring, encouraging, and faith building. These previews are also one of the best ways to introduce people to the Immanuel approach. At five to seven minutes each, they require a very modest time investment, and the powerful healings during the sessions and striking fruit apparent at the follow-up interviews tend to be very effective in convincing people that this is an approach to emotional healing that merits further investigation. Note that these preview clips are even shorter than the condensed live ministry sessions.  (These sessions are posted with permission.)

We recommend watching them in the order they are listed. More emotionally intense videos are labeled.

  1. “Maggie #3: Labor & Delivery Trauma”
  2. “Rita #3: Jesus Is Better Than Candy”
  3. “Renae: Healing Helps Parenting”
  4. “Steve: Just Be With Jesus
  5. “Father-Son Wounds” (intense)
  6. “Maggie #2: ‘If I leave, she could die’...”
  7. “Maggie: More Than Healing”
  8. “Dawn: Disarming the Lure of Affirmation”
  9. “Doug: ‘Immanuel Intervention’ (intermediate)”
  10. “Jim: Grieving Dad’s Death”
  11. “Eileen: ‘Immanuel Intervention’(intermediate)”

Introductory Essays

  • The free essays below provide a thorough introduction to the Immanuel approach.

Immanuel Approach (to Emotional Healing and to Life)

(New 8/26/2011) summary: In this new essay I provide an alternative introduction to the Immanuel approach, specifically intended to be more accessible to the average lay person (who may not be as concerned about the relationship between the Immanuel approach, EMDR, and Theophostic). The first two pages provide a very brief summary of the principles and process of the Immanuel approach to emotional healing, the next six pages present faith-building stories of how the Lord has been working through this approach to emotional healing, and the last two pages talk briefly about the wider Immanuel approach to life.

Introduction to the Immanuel Approach

(New: 10/24/2007 revised: 07/23/2011) summary: The full title of this essay is "Brain Science, Psychological Trauma, and the God Who Is with Us ~ Part I: A Brief Introduction to the Immanuel Approach." In this document I tell the story of my journey with respect to what we call the “Immanuel Approach to emotional healing,” and also the larger “Immanuel Approach to life.” I describe how we discovered/developed each component of the Immanuel approach, and also discuss how the Immanuel approach relates to other methods of emotional healing, such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), traditional Christian emotional healing ministry, and Theophostic-based emotional healing. Some people find that knowing the story of how something was developed helps them better understand it, and also better appreciate it’s importance. These folks find this particular introduction to the Immanuel approach to be especially helpful. The discussion of how the Immanuel approach relates to other methods of emotional healing tends to be an important part of the introduction for mental health professionals and those in full time ministry. Note that this document has recently received major edits (summer 2011), with several pages of new material. The up-to-date version is currently posted on both www.kclehman.com and www.outsmartingyourself.com.

The Immanuel Approach Revisited

(New 01/06/2008, revised: 02/04/2011) summary: The full title of this essay is "Brain Science, Psychological Trauma, and the God Who Is with Us ~ Part V: The Immanuel Approach Revisited". It provides a much more thorough discussion of what we have learned so far with respect to the Immanuel approach. In this document I present the evidence supporting positive memory recall, deliberate appreciation, and “describe everything that comes into your awareness” as parts of the Immanuel approach. I also present much more detailed descriptions of the Immanuel approach process, including a careful discussion of trouble shooting and a discussion of special considerations for group exercises. This document is currently (August 2011) undergoing massive revisions. The new version will be posted on both www.kclehman.com and www.outsmartingyourself.com as soon as it is finished.

Immanuel God With Us

(New: 10/25/2006 revised: 10/26/2006) summary: This document is the manuscript of Charlotte’s seminar lecture recorded on the DVD/VHS entitled “Immanuel: God With Us.” Charlotte delves into the Biblical uses of the name Immanuel, Hebrew for “God with us,” and draws out essential insights, both for emotional healing, and more broadly, for the life of Christian discipleship. This presentation of Biblical exegesis and real life illustrations can also serve as an indirect and non-threatening, but compelling, introduction to the necessity for emotional healing in the life of the believer. This teaching also contributed to the discovery and use of powerful new approaches to emotional healing, which we are now sharing in the “Immanuel Series.”

Where/How Do I Get Training Regarding the Immanuel Approach

(New: 01/26/2010 revised: 07/1/2011) summary: An increasing number of people have been contacting us with questions along the lines of: “I would like to use the Immanuel approach to emotional healing in my _______ (psychotherapy practice, ministry, church, small group, family, marriage, etc.). How/where do I get training that will enable me to do this?” Unfortunately, at this time we do not have any kind of training institute, we do not offer internships/apprenticeships, and we are not providing seminars designed to train people to use the Immanuel approach. In the absence of this kind of Immanuel approach training package, we offer the following thoughts regarding do-it-yourself Immanuel approach training programs. This essay is also known as appendix C from Dr. Lehman's book Outsmarting Yourself.

Dr Lehman's first book Outsmarting Yourself: Catching Your Past Invading the Present and What to Do about it came off the press in March 2011. This book and the associated website explain how the past affects the present and how Immanuel approach dovetails with these important concepts. We particularly recommend the Key Concepts page and Chapter One to those looking to deepen their understanding.
